The Summer Program in Research and Leadership (SPIRL)
is a free, intensive, 5-week on-campus program during Summer Session 1. It is designed to enhance the academic experience of undergraduates and expand students' knowledge on research and graduate/professional schools. There is no out of pocket expense to participants for this program. All costs are covered by financial aid and program funding. SPIRL is a landmark program on the University of California, Irvine campus and represents a successful model that offers a rigorous research experience. Participants receive 10 units of academic credit towards graduation, join UC Irvine School of Social Sciences excelling alumni network, and become more prepared for post-baccalaureate options.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
Majors within the School of Social Sciences
Preference given to those who have completed lower division writing and one year of statistics or calculus prior to Summer 2025
Must not be graduating in Spring / Summer 2025
