ICSE 2026 Future of Software Engineering track pre-survey

A research community thrives when it takes the time to pause, reflect, and openly discuss its future. As part of the Future of Software Engineering event at ICSE 2026, we aim to foster inclusive and intentional conversations about the state of our field, the practices we follow, the people involved, the outcomes we achieve, and the values we hold.

This survey invites your perspectives on what is working well in our community, what is not, and what changes you would like to see. Your input will directly inform some of the position papers and discussions at the ICSE 2026 event, potentially helping to shape the vision and direction of software engineering research for years to come.

We encourage you to answer these questions and to share this survey widely, as every voice matters in shaping our collective future!

The survey consists of 12 questions and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All questions are optional.

The survey is entirely anonymous. Note that all survey responses will be published on the Discord associated with the Future of Software Engineering track (https://discord.gg/yadEbrfx), so to provide the community with a collective sense of how it is doing.  The survey will remain open until November 22 [NEW DEADLINE] end of day.

Thank you for participating and please spread the word to others to provide their voice.
